Diane relaxed in the forest, no more than a few feet from the river. She had stopped there for the night to rest and wash but she couldn't fall asleep now. Something was bothering her. She brought a strand of water up into the air, playing with it. "I wish that I knew why I can do this. Why must my mind torment me by hiding my memories?" she asked herself, sighing softly.

Let's assume the river is the max for my character, so 20 meters to the center (20 steps)

And steps don't count until you touch the waters surface

Brooke lifted her head from the surface, barely breaking the water. She looked at the girl on the river rank, playing with the water in hand. She smiled. Another water adept. This lonely soul would make the perfect friend. Sky and Mari would be so happy with the addition of a new companion. Well, Brooke assumed they would. They didn't exactly talk or show much expression these days. But she had to not startle this girl away. With a silent giggle, she ducked back under the water.

Waiting for the cloud to pass from the large moon high in the sky, Brooke started to sing, trying to grab her attention, trying to wash away her agony and replace it with idle curiosity.

(...100, I kid you not)

Diane sat up as she heard Brooke, looking around curiously. "Who's there?" She asked, the water in her hand dropping back to the ground.

For dramatic flair, Brooke slowly rose from the water in the middle of her river. She continued to sing, never missing a beat.
"I'm here. You looked so melancholic. I thought I'd sing for you."

Diane blinked as Brooke rose out of the water and smiled warmly. "Oh, that's very nice. I'm just thinking about a few things. I'm Diane," She said, standing up and stepping up to the water's edge.

Brooke smiled warmly.
"I know what it feels like to not know...to not belong..."
She made a deep curtsy.
"I'm Brooke. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Let me sing another song for you?"
And before she could answer, Brooke started again, singing a song of love and loss, and a lack of identity and age...

Diane listened for awhile, staying at the water's edge. "That's beautiful. You have a lovely voice, Brooke." She said, smiling.

Brooke spun in a circle and smiled.
"Thank-you for your kind words."
She stopped spinning and faced Diane.
"It's nice to have someone appreciate my singing. It gets so lonely out here."

She lifted an eyebrow.
"I saw you playing with some water before. You know water magic?"
She smiled again.
"You can play with my water if you want. Just look at it and see if it suits your magic. I like people who appreciate the water arts."

Diane glanced down at the water, meaning to look back up but being caught by her reflection. Had it always looked so interesting? She took a step forward and looked up at Brooke.

"I enjoy playing with the water, yes. It's a beautiful element. I haven't quite figured out how to use it to fight though," she said, smiling at Brooke, though her hand was near the hidden dagger at her side.

(Okay. Tell me when/if you hit the water Tongue)

Brooke looked at the girl quizzically, oblivious to the hidden dagger.
"Well...if you keep me company...maybe I can teach you a thing or two about the water."
She gestured back to the river.
"Just watch the water. Get a feel for it. Watch how it moves, it flows..."

(19, she's two steps into the water)

Diane looked down again, captivated by the water. She listened to Brooke and nodded, watching the water move and flow. "That would be nice," she murmured, distractedly.

"All you have to do is get a feel for the water. Focus, and tell me if you can...feel...the water"
She said with a small giggle.
