Right now, the skills are very effective, and a lot of fun. But they could wear off with time, which is why I think it would be a good idea to introduce a "learning" aspect to the characters

After an encounter, or perhaps as dispensed by a mod/admin, whatever, a player can opt to either upgrade an existing skill slightly, or learn a new skill. That way, the skills will grow along with the players. For example of an upgraded skill:

Base:
Sword Dance
80% chance to hit
Deals 15 damage

Upgrade:
Increase chance to hit by 10
OR
Increase damage by 5
OR
Breakout!
Rolling higher than a 90
You strike a critical area, dealing five extra damage and increasing the hitchance of attacks used on the character by 10%

To prevent overpowered skills, each skill may only be upgraded once.

This sounds like a plan.  Maybe we can have this every even level; that way, you could upgrade a skill a few times.  I'm going to work out something with this.

I third this idea. The HP and CC growth from encounters is nice, but things could grow a little stale. Once we start up though it'll be easier to figure this stuff out.

How about once every two levels after your first? That way it seems like a more important choice and we don't end up overpowered?

Something like:
Level One (start here)
Level Two (Upgrade)
Level Three
Level Four (Upgrade)
Level Five
Level Six (upgrade)
etc...

Course this is providing anyone can manage to get a few level ups before converted.  Cheesy

That works fine, and you can go ahead and consider it an implemented mechanic.

May or may not stick it in the How To's though xD. Depends on how much time I get. We're still small enough I may not have to....Maybe....Possibly....

I certainly like this concept. What I'd say is: would it be the same rules for Mistresses? Or would they grow less slowly (since they seem to have the edge at the moment)? Or (I'd rather this not be the case, but I accept that it might be) would they just not learn any skills at all?
